US online job ads rose in March by 102,100 to approximately 4.8 million, according to The Conference Board’s report on online job ads. The March increase follows a sharp decrease in February.

Nine of the largest 10 online occupational categories posted increases in March. Ads for sales and related jobs logged the largest increase, up by 21,200 to a total of 470,500. Transportation and material moving ads rose by 14,600 to 303,200 ads, and management ads rose by 14,400 to 426,800.

Food preparation and serving related ads posted the only decrease, down by 11,700 to 219,500 ads.

Job Boards, Social Media Sites & Recruitment Advertising

Chairman Mom, a San Francisco, CA-based platform that lets working mothers share experiences and answers to help one another manage life and career, raised $1.4m in seed funding. The round was led by Ann Miura-Ko from Floodgate Ventures and Tim Connors from PivotNorth Capital, with participation from Reid Hoffman from Greylock Discovery and Charles Hudson from Precursor Ventures as well as angel investors Amy Errett, Susan Choe, Susan Wu, Allison Bhusri, Sonja Perkins, and Sarah Imbach. The company will use the funds to roll out additional features and to expand question and answer functionality. Its question and answer platform, which has just launched out of beta, gives women the opportunity to form communities around topics such as motherhood on social networks, with no toxicity, trolling, shaming or the negativity that can be found on social networks. Comatch GmbH, a Berlin, Germany-based marketplace for independent top management consultants and industry experts, completed an €8m Series B financing round. Backers included Acton Capital Partners, Atlantic Labs and btov. The company intends to use the funds for international expansion, further technological development and improved services for clients and consultants. Launched in March 2015 by former McKinsey consultants Dr. Christoph Hardt and Dr. Jan Schächtele, Comatch matches top-quality independent management consultants and industry experts with companies of all sizes. The company’s network of independent management consultants and industry experts currently comprises 4,300 profiles from over 60 countries. Russia’s No. 1 recruitment vertical HeadHunter.ru has applied for an IPO on the Nasdaq, according to documents filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The company expects to attract $250 million U.S. via the IPO. The site first suggested it was considering an IPO back in January. The American depository shares will be placed by Highworld Investments Limited and ELQ Investors VIII Limited. Morgan Stanley, BofA Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, VTB Capital and SberBank CIB will be the organizers of the offering. Source: AIM Group

Jobletics, Inc., the new approach to hourly labor staffing, announced that it has partnered with SeedInvest, an equity crowdfunding platform, to launch a Jobletics equity offering leveraging SeedInvest’s new tiered investing solution, called SWIFT (Simple Weighted Incentive For Time). This new crowdfunding opportunity is a type of financing with time-based discounts applied to the security being offered, enabling investors to be rewarded for investing early. Jobletics, founded in 2015, is revolutionizing how food service, retail and hospitality businesses manage their labor staffing. With their mobile phone or PC, managers can schedule shifts for their business and know that a skilled worker will fill that shift and those they like the most can become ongoing members of their team. Recruit Holdings Co., Ltd. announced that it will acquire the website and assets of Canadian job site, Workopolis.com through one of its group companies. Indeed, the world’s number one job site and a subsidiary of Recruit, will operate Workopolis.com as part of its publisher network. The transaction is expected to close in April. The largest platform for hourly work, Snagajob, has launched a rebrand with a new visual identity and name, Snag, to reflect the company’s evolution. Since its launch in 2000, Snagajob has grown beyond jobs. The company acquired PeopleMatter in 2016 and established itself as the first end-to-end platform for hourly work. Key elements include a new look with reimagined logo, refreshed brand identity and updated website and apps. Snag’s purpose remains the same – to bring workers and employers together with the solutions they need to find and share work in their community. Source: Media Release

Sourcing, Matching, Assessing, Communicating (SMAC) Technology

The startup Canvas, a company that launched in June of 2017, has focused on text-based interviewing rather than phone calls. It claims that texting is actually more effective, since it allows both parties to carry on multiple interviews at any given time. All text threads are stored, unlike phone calls unless they’re recorded and played back, and the platform even recommends questions to hiring managers mid-conversation as well as providing company information to the interviewee. “You can engage 10x the candidates per day,” the Canvas website explains. Textio, the developer of the world’s first augmented writing platform, announced the release of Textio Hire. Textio Hire uses data from real hiring outcomes to optimize the language a company uses across its hiring teams, measurably increasing response rates from both passive candidates and active job-seekers. Textio Hire will help companies reach the additional people not actively looking for jobs by improving the way companies write cold emails to candidates. Current approaches to cold outreach are not cutting it. Only 5.2 percent of Americans have responded to a recruiter message in the last three months. Source: Media Release
