Europe proposes strict regulation of artificial intelligence

The European Union unveiled strict regulations to govern the use of artificial intelligence, a first-of-its-kind policy that outlines how companies and governments can use a technology seen as one of the most significant, but ethically fraught, scientific breakthroughs in recent memory. Presented at a news briefing in Brussels, the draft rules would set limits around the use of artificial intelligence in a range of activities, from self-driving cars to hiring decisions, school enrollment selections and the scoring of exams. It would also cover the use of artificial intelligence by law enforcement and court systems — areas considered “high risk” because they could threaten people’s safety or fundamental rights.

RippleMatch Raises $23.5M for Early Career Job Board Marketplace and Announces New CRM

RippleMatch announced a $25 million Series A round of venture capital for its job board marketplace focused on new grads and early careers. This brings its total raised to $34.2 million. RippleMatch appears to be a straight forward early recruiting site. “Integrated” to a reported 1200+ campuses, providing “AI matching” between candidates and jobs, the ability to target diversity recruiting, manage campus and recruiting events, and providing space for employers to represent their brands. All of the capabilities that employers investing in targeting early career talent expect. RippleMatch won’t appreciate being categorized as a job board marketplace, and they’ve announced a CRM for employers to leverage and nurture candidates, expected in Spring 2021. Depth of capabilities in the CRM may move them into the recruitment marketing space.

The Myths of Moral Leadership

According to the HOW Institute for Society, which surveyed 2,305 people from a wide range of industries and organizations representing all levels of responsibilities, the demand for moral leadership in business and, by extension, the world at large is greater and more urgent than ever. But despite this urgent demand, there is an unfortunate lack of such moral leadership. This isn’t just a philosophical or moral problem; it’s very much a business and economic problem, as well. This is because organizations with strong moral leadership quite simply perform better across a range of outcomes. Part of the problem is that there’s a fair amount of confusion about what moral leadership actually looks like. This is obviously important since it’s only when we have a clear understanding of what moral leadership looks like that we can accurately assess whether it is present or absent in any given organization, as well as what can be done to cultivate it.
