“The terms ‘ghosting,’ ‘catfishing,’ and ‘no show’ are mostly used in the dating world. However, these types of behaviors have become typical in recruiting situations as well, due to the candidate-driven nature of today’s hiring market.

“In my own agency, I have seen an increase in the amount of no shows to interviews or appointments in the last six months. Many times an attempt to follow up with these candidates is futile, as I am being thoroughly “ghosted” or consciously ignored and avoided. This phenomenon is not specific to one industry or one type of role. I’ve seen this type of behavior at all levels and in almost every industries (sic).”

Andy Roane has joined Bayard Advertising Agency as Senior Vice President, RPO. Roane brings more than 20 years of experience to the role, including over a decade with both Yoh RPO and PeopleScout.

Fabio Rosati is taking over as chairman and CEO of Snag.com. Rosati was CEO of Elance, which later became Upwork, from 2001 to 2015.

Job Boards, Social Media Sites & Recruitment Advertising

Campus Rec Magazine has recently announced the debut of CampusRecJobs.com, their job board aimed at the industry of campus recreation. Campus Rec Jobs is dedicated to helping jobseekers find fulfilling campus recreation opportunities, as well as providing a platform for college and university rec departments to find potential candidates. Currently in beta testing, Campus Rec Jobs is offering free unlimited listings now through October 1, 2018. Source: JobsPortalWatch

Director of corporate communications at DHI Rachel Ceccarelli has confirmed the company’s tech job board, Dice, will be exiting Europe this summer. Dice sites in the UK and Germany will officially be closing on August 31, 2018. No other European countries or regions are serviced. “This was a strategic decision for DHI to focus efforts on eFinancialCareers, where we have a strong competitive opportunity to serve technology professionals in the financial services industry globally,” says Ceccarelli. All contracts which run beyond August 31 will be reviewed, and outstanding inventory at this date will be credited. Richmond VA based Dinegigs has secured 5 million in new funding. The site went live in 2017 with a job board and software offerings for the food service industry. The company launched last year with limited offers such as hiring and on-boarding software, and a social network for restaurants’ employees. DineGigs is planning a full launch in the second quarter of 2019, and Parker said the fundraising round will float the company through then, at which point it’ll begin bringing in revenue. Snag, the largest online marketplace for hourly jobs across the U.S., announced it has begun offering its recruiting services to employers in Canada for the first time, marking the company’s expansion into an international market. Businesses located in Canada can now use Snag’s innovative platform to create and post job openings and to manage the hiring process from start to finish. The first customer in Canada is HMSHost, a global restaurateur and leader in dining options for airports and motorways, with more than 4,000 stores worldwide. Source: Media Release

One of the more prominent startups in the so-called “gig economy,” Upwork has confidentially filed for its initial public offering, Recode has learned. That means you can expect Upwork to become a public company in the next few months, according to people familiar with the matter, unless the startup pulls back its plans or gets acquired. Upwork stands to grow as workplaces become more and more digital and out-of-office. Upwork connects freelancers — typically those in the creative world, such as graphic designers or computer programmers — to employers looking to shell out cash to complete a few odd jobs. Think of it like a TaskRabbit or Thumbtack for remote, more brainy work. Source: Recode

In June 2017, Google made a significant step into the online recruitment market when they formally launched a new search experience to help jobseekers find jobs more efficiently in the US. Madgex teamed up with Google to test and launch the new search feature in the US and have been working together closely in preparation for the UK launch. As of July 17, 2018, Google has officially launched the Google for Jobs search experience in the United Kingdom. As the industry-leading job board provider, Madgex has once again been working in partnership with Google and can continue to offer its clients first-to-market access to these new initiatives. Greenhouse, a popular applicant tracking solution, joined a growing number of its peers raising money lately. Hired, for example, just raised $30 million. Phenom People recently raised $22 million. I could go on, but the gist is recruitment remains hot and the number of firms looking for a piece of the pie is growing. Whether they know it or not, the time to raise money goes beyond growth of the sector and the need for talent. The timing, in part, should have a lot to do with well-funded players like Google, whose ATS offering, Hire, is evolving fast. LinkedIn, which is now going after the SMB market, is now a major threat. To counter it, Greenhouse announced that it has raised $50 million in Series D funding from Riverwood Capital. It will use the cash to expand globally and improve its product suite around recruiting, onboarding, hiring analytics, and diversity and inclusion. Talentful.ai is a cool new tool that helps recruiters quickly find and analyze information about potential talent! It works both as a Chrome extension to find information from other sites and as its own site. The extension allows you to quickly determine whether someone may or may not be of interest, and the full site provides more in-depth profiles and options. Talentful is also unique in its use of machine learning to provide new insights into candidates. Once the extension is enabled, the logo will be present at the side of the screen when on LinkedIn. Upon clicking the logo, an overlay will appear that provides a variety of data on the candidate, including contact information, skills, experience, and school ranking. Source: Media Release
