“We don’t give a sh*t what you call it.”

That’s the response from a panel of corporate talent acquisition executives at the TAtech Leadership Summit on AI & Machine Learning in Talent Acquisition. They had been asked if they thought today’s chatbots and other machine learning-based products were really AI or something less.

They made their view pretty clear, and then went on to say that all they cared about was whether or not the technology actually helped them get the job done.

Facebook is losing young users even quicker than expected, according to new estimates by eMarketer. The digital measurement firm predicted last year that Facebook would see a 3.4 percent drop in 12- to 17-year-old users in the U.S. in 2017, the first time it had predicted a drop in usage for any age group on Facebook. The reality: The number of U.S. Facebook users in the 12- to 17-year-old demographic declined by 9.9 percent in 2017, eMarketer found, or about 1.4 million total users. That’s almost three times the decline expected. There were roughly 12.1 million U.S. Facebook users in the 12- to 17-year-old demographic by the end of the year. There are likely multiple reasons for the decline. Facebook has been losing its “cool” factor for years, and young people have more options than ever for staying in touch with friends and family. Facebook also serves as a digital record keeper — but many young people don’t seem to care about saving their life online, at least not publicly. That explains why Snapchat and Instagram, which offer features for sharing photos and videos that disappear, are growing in popularity among this demographic. Source: recode

Recruit Holdings Co. Ltd., which ranks as one of the world’s largest staffing firms, reported revenue rose 11.2% as measured in yen in its fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, 2017. The Tokyo-based firm owns the Indeed jobs website, and reported fast growth on the site with Indeed revenue rising 60.6% on a US dollar basis. Growth at Indeed “was mainly due to a combination of new customer acquisition and expanding spend from existing customers against the backdrop of a favorable economic environment and strong labor market,” according to the company. The site reached 250 million unique visitors in January. Source: Staffing Industry Analysts

Microsoft-owned LinkedIn has introduced a new tool on its platform, called ‘Scheduler’ which will take the friction out of the interviewing process for both recruiters and candidates. The new feature will help users automate initial interview scheduling by syncing their calendar to LinkedIn Recruiter, and then share their calendar availability with candidates directly in their InMails. The aim of ‘Scheduler’ is to save the time spent on scheduling a meeting and help recruiters focus their energies on hiring strategically and on-boarding the best candidate. Source: DNA

Cut-e has launched vidAssess, a platform to help recruiters create a customized interview experience that focuses on the requirements of the role, enabling them to see and hear candidates at an early stage of the selection process. It offers the logistical freedom to conduct many more candidate interviews and to quickly and consistently assess each person’s suitability for the job. vidAssess helps recruiters to define the relevant competencies and behaviors that are critical for success in any role; create a pool of questions that will reveal the required competencies and set up and manage ‘interview projects’. Candidates are given preparation time to respond to each question, so they can gather their thoughts and give their best answer. Assessors can quickly shortlist appropriate candidates, by rating their answers against the established competencies.

Gartner, Inc. (NYSE:IT), a leading research and advisory company, announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to sell CEB Talent Assessment to Exponent Private Equity, a UK-based private equity firm, for $400 million. The agreement comes at the end of a previously announced process to evaluate strategic alternatives for CEB Talent Assessment, formerly SHL, which was acquired by Gartner as part of the CEB acquisition in 2017. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2018 and is subject to customary closing conditions.

General Information Services (“GIS”), one of the leading providers of background screening and talent acquisition services, announced it has completed the acquisition of BackTrack Inc. (“BackTrack”), an industry-leading background screening provider. BackTrack offers a full suite of employment screening services and has grown steadily since its founding in 1994, serving a diversified, nationwide customer base. BackTrack’s deep experience with clients in the healthcare and manufacturing industries will allow GIS to quickly expand its capabilities and customer relationships in these sectors. The acquisition underscores GIS’ focus on developing a robust platform for its client base, through both organic growth and acquisitions.
